Infrastructure Operating Model Development Round Table Forum
The Rational for This Forum Sponsored by:
IT ecosystem is constantly changing with SasS, IasS, AasS, Cloud, BYOD, Outsourcing dominating the landscape. Even the very definition of “Infrastructure” is no longer the same and it means different things to different people. Surprisingly in this constantly changing world we still seem to be working with “legacy operating models”. It is not that newer operating models are not available; in reality one would say there are too many of them. However, most of these models are still “theoretical / conceptual” models lacking much of a reality test behind them. Also the fact is that each organisation is different and each organisation has to adapt these models to their overall organisation context, priorities and most important culture.
Infrastructure Op Model

What is the Forum About?
In October 2013 CIO Network established a small working group of Infrastructure custodians from various leading organisations to have an open discussion about issues relating to “operating model”. In this working group it became obvious that there are lot of organisations which are already attempting to address these issues within their own organisations and it will be greatly beneficial if a forum was created where these valuable experiences can be synthesised to arrive at a realistic “Operating model” blue print. This resulted in a vision to have an Operating model developed by the “Infrastructure Custodians” and validated against their own experience as well as industry “Good Practice”.
This “Operating model development forum”- is to build on the knowledge, experience and concepts of different participants and arrive at a “straw men” model for review and refinement. It is a working session aimed at getting tangible outcomes. Unlike most of the conferences where participants go back to their work with a set of presentations, file them up somewhere and move on with their day to day job this forum is to provide outcomes which can be related to day to day working environment. These outcomes will be further refined through follow-up discussion sessions to incorporate comments, real life learnings and enhancements to the model.
Agenda July 25
At the end of the day the focus is to get a blue print of an operating model relevant in the new world. This approach encourages participants contributing their valuable experience and creating something which can be adapted to their organisation.
How Is This Forum Different?
- Discussions are restricted to peers from corporate IT. Only one consultant or vendor rep may be present if they are sponsors.
- Interactive facilitated round table discussions of 6-8 attendees to encourage interaction
- Feedback from peers on common organisational challenges.
- Focus on learning from practical peer experiences and ‘what not to do’.
- Relevant outcomes and strategies which can be used within your organisations.
- Takeaways’ identified at the end of each session by facilitators
Who should attend?
- Any senior executive who carries the “custodianship” of their organisation IT infrastructure assets
- Any senior executive who have the responsibility for organisation change and strategic directions
- Any senior executive who are responsible for “Service Delivery”
Why should I attend?
This is an opportunity for you to define your own destiny. Working with your industry peers you will have opportunity to explore and refine some of the “Operating Model” concepts you have been working on. You will be able to take back a blue print (Straw man) of the new age “Operating Model” which you can institutionalise in your own organisation with much higher degree of confidence due the level of scrutiny through industry peer discussions.
You have a choice, you take a leadership position by proactively introducing the blue print of new age “Operating Model” or be prepared to be driven by some external “expert” who comes in to define your operating model and leaves you responsible to make it work.
